5 Things to Guide your planning to study in Canada as an International Student:

1. Choose a Designated Learning Institute(DLI). Only DLIs are eligible to accept international students and Issue study permits. International students are advised to avoid non-DLIs if they plan to receive Post-Graduate Work Permit. Check IRCC’s official website to find the list of DLIs.

2. Meet the Academic and Language Proficiency Requirements: Except for countries where English is seen as their official language, you will be required to meet the Language proficiency requirements.

English and French are the official languages in Canada. To meet language proficiency,  standardized tests are required like –  International English Language Test System (IELTS), Canadian English Language Proficiency Index(CELPIP), Test of Engish as a Foreign Language(TOEFL), Pearson Test of English(PTE), Test de Connaissance du francais pour le Canada(TCF Canada) and Test d’evaluation de francais(TEF Canada).

3. Prepare Your Finances: Your finances are an important criterion when applying for your study permit. You must show proof of enough financial resources to cover your tuition, living expenses and airfare. IRCC(Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) announced new living expenses requirements for International students.

4. Apply for a study permit. Once you have gained admission from a DLI and fulfilled the conditions of the offer, you can apply for a study permit from the IRCC official website. You must ensure that you provide the required documents which include your unconditional or final offer letter, Proof of finances, medical tests and others.

5. Get ready to move to Canada. Once you meet all the requirements and your study permit is approved, you can start making arrangements to travel to Canada. Contact your DLI to confirm your enrollment and complete the necessary registration steps, book your flight and arrange your accommodation.
